BIOSKETCH: Over the past decade Ashley has worked in both academic and public libraries, focusing on digital inclusion and facilitating access to scholarly content.
She completed her Masters in Library and Information Sciences through the University of Washington’s Information School.
Ashley is the Program Officer of Knowledge and Research Services at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In this capacity she leads the foundation’s Open Access Policy’s implementation and associated initiatives. This includes leading the work of Gates Open Research, a transparent and revolutionary publishing platform. Other core activities involve supporting the strategic and operational aspects of the foundation’s library. This work has sparked a passion for open access, believing that freely accessible knowledge has the power to improve and save lives.

BIOSKETCH: Rob Johnson is the Managing Director of Research Consulting, a mission-driven business which works to improve the effectiveness and impact of research and scholarly communication. Rob began his career as a consultant with KPMG, the international professional services firm, working in the UK and New Zealand higher education sectors before holding senior research management roles at the University of Nottingham, UK. Since founding Research Consulting in 2013 he has worked at the forefront of the transition to open science, advising universities, research funders, intergovernmental bodies, publishers and software suppliers. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and holds an MSc in Higher Education Management from Loughborough University.

BIOSKETCH: Kamran Robert Kardan is the Founder and CEO of Knowledge E and plays an active role in the Knowledge E Foundation. He founded Knowledge E in 2012, with the aim of providing unique, professional, and high-quality services to information professionals in the MENA region and beyond. Kamran has 20 years of experience working in the publishing industry on both the publisher and agency front. Working closely with some of the top consortia, libraries, ministries, hospitals and corporations within research and education in the region, he has experienced the birth and growth of many digital libraries. Driven by his interest in learning societies, he has initiated and participated in the completion of various special development. Kamran has also launched Zendy.io, a new flagship massive online library platform enabling enhanced discovery, collaboration possibilities, and analytical tools that serve the global research community by removing the barriers to access research.
